Biography:

Hi everyone! My Name is Tyler Striegel. I am a personal trainer at Top Shape Gym. Loving what I do is an understatement. I live for it. But I don’t live at the gym all the time. In my  free time,  when I’m not training clients, I enjoy being active by playing slow-pitch softball, getting a casual and/or competitive round of disc golf in, or during summer evenings I love going for a bike ride, usually bar to bar. Family and friends are also very important to me. Destressing from life is something I take very seriously, and I use that time to enjoy my friends or family’s company.

Here’s some background information on me. I was born in Cedar Rapids. Most of my family is from the area. I moved to Belle Plaine when I was young. I grew up there and attended grade school in Belle Plaine. I graduated from Belle Plaine Jr/Sr High School in 2013, and from there I attended Kirkwood Community College here in Cedar Rapids. I enrolled into school for Criminal Justice, but slowly shifted my focus towards exercise science. I graduated with my exercise science degree in 2017. I then began personal training, when we were Aspen Athletic Club.  Then Top Shape Gym took over and the rest is history!

On the health and fitness side of things, being active is in my nature.  Even before day 1, when I was in my mom’s belly I was active. It’s just in my genetics. She always tells me stories on how I used to tap dance on her bladder before I was born. And then I entered the world, AND LOOK OUT! I played sports all my life growing up and still do. I really enjoyed basketball, baseball, football, and track. I tore my ACL and meniscus my senior year of football, so that killed any collegiate hopes I had. It was a pretty gruesome injury. Once I got my knee rehabilitated, I did a handful of Warrior Dashes, Ironman races, and a couple mini triathlons. After being confident with my knee I started doing MMA fighting. I was 2-0 in the cage and decided hurting people wasn’t for me… Or was it? That was when I decided to take my knowledge of health, working out, and fitness and implement them into aspects of other people’s lives. I got my personal training certification through  NCEP, National College of Exercise Professionals.  My very first day being a personal trainer, I signed my very first client up. That is when I knew personal training was for me. I quickly built my clientele up. After a while I wanted to widen my horizons. I began instructing Team Training class, personal training but in a group setting, and it took off faster than sound moves! I then thought, what could be next? I got my ASFA certification(American Sports and Fitness Association) and now instruct group fitness cycling classes. The next goal I have for myself is to get my nutrition certification, to further help my clients with their well being, as well as health and fitness.

I am very energetic, always have a smile on my face, and am very accountable. I have to be accountable for my clients to be accountable. And I live by that. I give you 100% and I expect the same in return. When I come to the gym every morning at 5am, it doesn’t feel like I’m going to work. Doing something I love doesn’t feel like a job to me.
